  • Overview

Your first reaction to different people, ideas, or cultures is curiosity – a desire to develop a deeper understanding. You strongly believe that good things tend to happen when we seek to understand those with whom we differ. You also believe that when the tendency to dismiss or to demonize “the other” becomes pervasive, society loses a critical driver of personal development, social progress, and community.

Our Free Expression team is looking for a dedicated program associate, known internally as a portfolio management associate, with a talent for information management and a budding skill set in relationship management. The right person for this position will have experience in external relations, project support, or supporting an outreach team. As a portfolio management associate, you will be responsible for assisting relationship owners with the exciting, meaningful relationships with partners they have built in the free expression space.

Through the assistance of our grant relationships and partnerships, you will have the ability to forge new paths and connections to transform the culture of free expression in this country. Along the way, you will work together with accomplished and passionate experts in this field – an unmatched opportunity. Better yet – you will be working to make a life-changing impact on the lives of individuals every single day. Sound like a mission you want to join? Apply today.

    Your Responsibilities Include

    • Supporting a robust portfolio of grant relationships through timely and accurate disbursement of grants and renewals, including working closely with relationship owners to ensure data accuracy
    • Assisting with prospecting new partners who share our vision for an open and collaborative society
    • Establishing and maintaining team norms to enable more efficient knowledge sharing across teams
    • Provide outreach assistance for the total portfolio, including on-site assistance for conferences, serving as a site contact for speakers as needed, and attending networking and other events as needed
    • Track information from engagement activities to help inform decision-making moving forward, assisting in the creation of grant recommendations as needed

Knowledge and Skills You Bring to the Organization

    • 2+ years of professional experience in an administrative, project support, or knowledge management capacity
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Demonstrated success in organizing information and maintaining data accuracy
    • Commitment to and passion for promoting peaceful means of building bridges across divides and identifying antidotes to coercion
    • Strong professionalism with the ability to collaborate with a variety of different audiences and personalities
    • High sense of urgency and problem-solving mindset
    • A formidable attention to detail and a high level of discretion

    Standout Candidates May Also Bring

    • Experience managing relationships in an outreach, development and fundraising, or external relations role
    • Experience in a grant-making organization
    • Strong background in managing complex projects from start to completion with a global, nuanced perspective
    • Prior experience working in the tech, arts (culture), and/or media sector
